Looking for Resources and Ideas?

News for February 13, 2007

New format for list-serve announcements from SigWeb! We have recently created a SigWeb blog. We hope to use this as a community resource and go-to place when SigWeb members, as well as other Macul members, have an issue concerning web development, trends and design, and implementation.

Anyone is welcome to add comments to the postings, leave feedback or ideas for future postings (list-serve announcments, updates, etc.). If you would like to email the list-serve directly please email the group at the following address: macul-sigweb@mail.eup.k12.mi.us.

Other than that, our goal is to become more active in the future months and serve our members in every capacity feasible.

This posting covers the following topics:
  • Web Resources for Developers
  • Using online portfolios to showcase students' web-based work
  • Early Registration for the Macul Conference ends soon!

Web Resources for Developers
When Googling for resources when it comes to web design, one might find themselves a little overwhelmed at the results. Here are a few great resources to keep us learning and growing with web development trends and programming:

Asking for a little feedback: Online Portfolios and Collaboration
With the idea of collaboration and collective learning at the forefront of education and innovation, it is not surprising that individuals serious about web development have also gotten into the act of peer reviewing. The following is a short list of individuals who have posted their personal web sites on WebDeveloper.com's Forum. This particular forum is specifically designed for feedback from individuals from the field. Wouldn't it be great if students received viable constructive criticism from those who develop professionally? The following sites demonstrate if nothing else, in our day and age, we must never stop learning. These individuals, spanning a spectrum of age levels, are learning by doing, learning by collaborating. Take a look:

Barry McGee's homepage and online portfolio*

*Barry discusses so many topics from his current courses that even his posts, beyond the site design, were note-worthy and interesting.

Time is running out!

Tuesday, February 27 is the deadline for early registration for the 2007 MACUL Conference held in Detroit on March 14-16. After 2/27 registration rates increase by $30.

Don't miss the 31st Annual MACUL conference, featuring an outstanding line up of presentations by nationally known speakers and top technology using educators from Michigan and the Midwest. You will also want to see the latest and greatest in educational technology displayed in our large exhibit hall. New this year is the Touch the Future Classroom, showcasing the latest and greatest technology in a model school setting. Attendees will also have a chance to see innovative technology to help struggling students in the Technology Playground.

Also, there's still time to register for the Student Technology Showcase. Bring a team of students and qualify for a registration discount.
